Luna Ugrenović, Ph.D., EMDR-T is a licensed associate professional counselor (LAPC) and a certified mental performance consultant (CMPC) at Greenepsych. Dr. Ugrenović is passionate about helping performers achieve their goals by choice, rather than by chance. Her aim is to help clients maintain a healthy and satisfying relationship between their performances, lifestyle, and mental wellbeing. As a former collegiate student-athlete, Dr. Ugrenović understands what it takes to manage the pressures of achieving and sustaining excellence in one’s field. She aims to help her clients improve their mental health while reaching their highest level of performance in sports, performing arts, or professions such as law and medicine.

At Greenepsych, Dr. Ugrenović provides individual and group services to athletes, teams, coaches, and other performers of all ages and backgrounds. In addition to talk therapy, she incorporates Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy when working with clients presenting with traumatic stress as well as mental performance concerns. Her work with clients is rooted in strength-based client-centered approaches.

Research Projects and Publications

Basic Psychological Needs Theory as a Framework for Effective Mental Health Referrals in Collegiate Sport: A grounded Theory Investigation. By Ugrenović, Voelker, Coker-Cranney, Raabe, & Zaisberger (2025) – Journal of Clinical Sport Psychology

Dr. Ugrenović’s doctoral research explored the experiences of collegiate athletes receiving mental health referrals, and how those conversations impact athletes’ willingness to engage with referral recommendations.

The Relationship between Emotional Intelligence, Leadership Styles, and Burnout in NCAA Coaches. By Ugrenovic, Shaffer, & Boiangin (2020) – The Sport Journal

Dr. Ugrenović’s master’s thesis research explored how coaches’ emotional intelligence and their different leadership styles relate to experiencing burnout.

Background & Education

Dr. Ugrenović holds a Ph.D. in Sport, Exercise, and Performance Psychology from West Virginia University, earned in 2024. Before pursuing doctoral studies, she completed a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at West Virginia University in 2022. Dr. Ugrenović also earned a Master of Science in Movement Science with a concentration in Sport, Exercise, and Performance Psychology from Barry University in 2019, following a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a focus on Industrial and Organizational Psychology, also from Barry, in 2017.

Prior to joining the Greenepsych team, Dr. Ugrenović’s experiences ranged from working as a psychotherapist and mental performance consultant at WVU’s Athletics Department, a psychotherapist trainee for WVU’s Counseling Center, a psychotherapist intern at an EMDR private practice, to a mental performance consultant for the WVU Rowing Team and the WVU School of Law. Between all these experiences, she provided the full range of mental health and sport psychology services to athletes of all ages and from various sports, as well as non-athlete children and adults. Dr. Ugrenović also worked as a sport and exercise psychology graduate teaching assistant at WVU, and the graduate assistant rowing coach at Barry. As a student-athlete at Barry, she was a two-time NCAA Division II rowing champion with a team that went undefeated for two consecutive years. Together, these experiences exposed her to diverse experiences and clients, and allowed her to develop a wide range of clinical and consulting skills. She is eager to use these skills to help the clients at Greenepsych thrive.

A native of Belgrade Serbia, Dr. Ugrenović is fluent in both Serbian (synonymous with Croatian, Bosnian, etc.) and English. In her free time, she enjoys traveling far and wide, being active outdoors, and spending time with family and friends, especially her husband Salman and their cat Delilah (AKA Baby D).
