Sport Psychology Clinician

Maddie Wood, M.Ed., is a sport psychology intern and mental health counselor at Greenepsych who specializes in working with athletes of all ages to build confidence, resilience, focus, and the mental skills needed to thrive both in sport and in life.

While Maddie enjoys working with athletes of all ages, she has a particular passion for supporting young athletes and their families during the elementary and middle school years—a critical time for developing confidence, resilience, emotional regulation, and a lifelong love of sport.

As Director of Greenepsych’s Young Athlete Program, Maddie leads the practice’s specialized services for athletes ages 8–12, helping young athletes develop confidence, emotional regulation, resilience, and a healthy relationship with sport. She partners closely with parents to navigate the unique challenges of youth athletics while equipping children with developmentally appropriate mental skills that foster long-term success, enjoyment, and personal growth.

In addition to leading the Young Athlete Program, Maddie provides individual counseling and mental performance coaching for middle school, high school, collegiate, and adult athletes. She works with clients experiencing performance anxiety, confidence struggles, perfectionism, fear of mistakes, injury recovery, motivation challenges, and the pressures of balancing athletics with school, work, and everyday life. She also provides workshops and educational presentations for teams, coaches, and parents, helping them create environments that support both performance and well-being.

A Berwyn, Pennsylvania native, Maddie grew up playing tennis and lacrosse at Conestoga High School before continuing her athletic career at the University of Florida, where she competed in club lacrosse. She earned her Master of Education in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Miami, where she focused on supporting Division I athletes and teams across a wide range of sports.

In addition to her counseling work, Maddie brings extensive coaching experience. During her senior year at the University of Florida, she coached varsity girls’ lacrosse and later served as Head Varsity Lacrosse Coach at the Academy of Notre Dame de Namur. These experiences strengthened her passion for helping athletes grow not only as competitors but also as confident, resilient young people, while providing valuable insight into the coach-athlete relationship.

As a former student-athlete, Maddie understands the unique pressures of balancing academics, athletics, and personal growth. Having navigated a significant sports injury, she brings empathy, resilience, and authenticity to every athlete and family she works with. Her goal is to help athletes develop skills that enhance both performance and overall well-being while fostering a lifelong love of sport.

Outside of her work at Greenepsych, Maddie enjoys staying active and spending as much time outdoors as possible. She loves strength training, playing tennis and pickleball, relaxing at the beach, and expressing her creativity through art. A proud dog mom, she also values the importance of self-care and believes that making time for the activities that bring joy, balance, and connection is an essential part of supporting overall mental health and well-being.
