Training for a fall marathon, half marathon, or goal race?

You’ve put in the miles.
Now it’s time to prepare your mind for race day.

Led by Dr. Mitchell Greene — a nationally and internationally recognized clinical and sport psychologist, marathon runner, and Ironman finisher. He’s worked with Olympians, professional athletes, elite collegiate and junior athletes, and scores of marathon runners like you.

You’ve Put in the Work.

  • You’ve set a big goal for yourself.
  • You’ve run the miles.
  • You’ve sacrificed weekend nights so you can get up early for long runs.
  • You’ve tried to eat better and pay attention to hydration.
  • You’ve followed the training plan—even when you didn’t feel like it.

So why can race day still feel so daunting?

Because when you’ve invested this much in something, there’s a lot that feels at stake. And that’s when the mind chatter tends to get louder:

  • What if I can’t hold my pace?
  • What if I have another bad race?
  • What if I didn’t train enough?
  • What if all this work doesn’t pay off?

That’s the part of your training we’re going to work on.

Courage Over Confidence for Runners is for runners who train hard, care deeply, and don’t want their mind getting in the way of everything they’ve worked for.

You’ve Probably Worked on This Before.

Some of it may have helped.

If you’re like many of the runners who benefit most from this work, you’ve already tried to strengthen your mental game — positive self-talk, visualization, mantras, telling yourself to relax, reminding yourself to “trust your training.” But when the race really matters and your mind gets loud, those strategies don’t always hold up.

Courage Over Confidence takes a different approach. You don’t need to eliminate doubt, replace every negative thought, or convince yourself you’re confident before you can race well.

You don’t need a quieter mind.
You need a better way to respond to it.

That’s what we’ll work on together.

“After completing five marathons, I realized the mental side was what I hadn’t figured out. I’d tried mantras, tried silencing the voice in my head — nothing worked, and I’d always end up run/walking the last 10K. Dr. Greene taught me how to manage that mental chatter instead of fighting it. Since then, I’ve run full marathons and even PR’d by 20 minutes.”

“Working with Dr. Greene truly helped me strengthen my mental game on long workouts, as well as on race day. He really knew how to pinpoint where I struggled with my courage to compete. Now I have more tools in my toolbox to tackle that mind chatter on my own instead of letting it derail me. I’d recommend his services to any athlete, any age.”

The Series

Three Sessions. One Mental Race Plan.

Session 1 — Understanding Your Mind Chatter

Why does your mind get louder when a race really matters? We’ll look at where mind chatter, overthinking, comparison, and self-doubt come from—and why trying to get rid of them can sometimes make things worse.

You’ll begin recognizing your own patterns and learn a different way to respond when your mind starts questioning whether you’re ready.

Session 2 — Responding Differently to Doubt

Bad workouts happen. So do missed runs, disappointing splits, injury concerns, unexpected setbacks, and days when you simply don’t feel confident.

You’ll learn how to respond differently when doubt shows up—how to reset, stay connected to what matters, and keep moving forward without needing to first convince yourself that everything is okay.

Session 3 — Race Courageously

We’ll bring everything together into your personal Mental Race Plan.

We’ll address race-week nerves, expectations, pre-race mind chatter, controllables, and what to do during those inevitable moments when the race gets difficult.

The goal isn’t to arrive at the starting line without doubts.
It’s to know how you want to respond when they show up.

Bring your questions — we’ll work through them together.

This Isn’t Three Lectures

I’ll teach. But mostly, we’ll talk.

Ask questions. Bring what’s happening in your own training. Apply it to your race, in real time.

Then we’ll come back and dig in: what happened, what worked, what didn’t, what you’re learning about your own mind.

What You’ll Get

  • Three live, interactive Zoom sessions with Dr. Greene
  • Practical exercises to use between sessions
  • Tools for managing mind chatter and race-day pressure
  • Your own personalized Mental Race Plan for race day
  • Courage Over Confidence audiobook (free if you register by Sept 16)
Meet Dr. Mitchell Greene

Mitchell Greene, Ph.D., is a clinical and sport psychologist and the founder of Greenepsych Clinical & Sport Psychology.

For more than 20 years, he’s helped athletes perform under pressure — without needing to eliminate nerves, doubts, or negative thoughts first. He’s worked with Olympians, professional athletes, elite collegiate and junior athletes, teams, coaches, and scores of marathon runners.

He’s the author of Courage Over Confidence: Managing Mind Chatter and Winning the Mental Game, which challenges the idea that you have to feel confident before you can perform well.

He’s also a marathon runner and Ironman finisher — so he knows firsthand what it’s like when months of training, sacrifice, and nerves all meet at the starting line.

Do I need to attend all three sessions?
The three sessions are designed to build on one another, so we strongly encourage you to attend the full series. This is a three-part program rather than individual drop-in sessions.
Is the series in person or virtual?
All three sessions will be held live on Zoom, so runners can participate from anywhere.
What if I'm not an elite runner?

You don’t need to be. This series is for runners of all levels who care about their training and want to improve the mental side of racing. Your pace isn’t what matters.

Do I need to be training for a marathon?
No. While the series is timed for runners preparing for fall marathons and half marathons, the strategies apply to runners preparing for races of different distances.
What if I've already tried positive self-talk, visualization, or mantras?
That’s okay—and you’re not alone. *Courage Over Confidence* takes a different approach.

The goal isn’t to eliminate nerves or negative thoughts. It’s to learn how to respond when they show up so they don’t take you away from how you want to race.

Will I be able to ask Dr. Greene questions about my own training and racing?
Yes. These are live, interactive sessions—not prerecorded lectures. There will be time for questions, discussion, and applying the material to what you’re experiencing in your own training.
What will I get besides the three sessions?
You’ll receive practical exercises to use between sessions and will develop your own Mental Race Plan to take with you into race day.
